Objectives of research

In order to known the true incidence of NH, have a better understanding of the main causes and the factors associated with NH timing in this population, a birth cohort study was set up. The information gathered by the study will help improve and adapt existing guidelines, help develop locally relevant protocols and make evidence-based recommendations on where and how available resources can be best directed to improve outcomes in NH. A secondary aim is the investigation of genetic factors in the development of severe NH. 3
A parallel study aims to assess the performances of the Bilistick System (a new, low cost, point of care device to measure serum bilirubin) .in a tropical limited-resource setting and to evaluate its usability when used by locally trained staff.
